Cason Awakens

Cason groaned and tried to open one eye. His stomach rushed up to meet his throat. Inhaling sharply, he lay his head on his forearm. What the hell had hit him? Why did he feel like he’d tied on a 3 day drinking binge with his frat brothers? Fuck, the last time he’d been stupid enough to do that he’d woken up to find Nitchell hovering over him. Had the little bastard slipped him – – –

Images slammed through Cason’s mind. Vivid underwater scenery and glimpses of far off mountains faded as he drew in a deep breath and slowly exhaled. His stomach sank back to its normal position, close to his navel. Raising his head with care and caution, Cason opened one eye. He counted the pairs of feet near him. At least five people stood nearby. Shit, what had Nitchell done now to draw attention to them?

“I think he’s coming round.” Nitchell’s fake cockney accent rankled Cason every time he heard it. Having a sea sprite for a guardian angel didn’t make life any easier, nor did wondering what else the gods might decide to throw at him. When had he pissed them off so thoroughly?

“Nitchell, lower your voice,” a female scolded. Cason’s eyes roved up the pair of feminine legs closest to him. They stopped at her red haired thatch. Another darker colored one stood next to her. When had Sandra taken up with women? Did Nemos know?

“Yes, I know every purr she makes, my friend.” Cason’s gaze inched left. A hand waved before him. His eyes clapped shut as he groaned.

“Nemos, move before I throw up.” Cason no more than spat out his last words and his stomach spewed up his throat. Several gut retching minutes later, two sets of hands helped Cason roll over.

“Take it easy.” A softer unknown feminine voice offered. “Jaxson has gone to the house to get you some water and a clean shirt.”

Cason shielded his eyes as he tried opening them again. Next to Sandra, another nude female stood. Nemos squatted near him, sniffing the air. “Do I smell that foul?”

Nemos smiled. “No, keeping an eye on the beach and those that approach. Two yards in either direction are groups that could move toward us. Right now they are interested in the waves and surf more than a group of people standing around.”

“If he can stand, we need to move back up behind our privacy fence. The life guards are coming on duty soon.” A tall black haired male stepped around Sandra and her companion. “I’m Jaxson and this is my mate Tessa.” He pointed to the lithe blonde next to Sandra.

“I’m Cason.” He tried to sit up. His vision blurred and his stomach lurched. “Can someone halt the train trying to run over me again?” Cason grabbed his head and swayed upright.

“Easy said than done mate,” Nitchell quipped. Cason squinted at him.

“Nitchell what the hell did you do to—“A female groan drowned out Cason’s next words.

All turned to face the lone woman still prone next to them. Her ash blonde locks hid her face. Her nude body left little to the imagination as she turned on her side.

“Who is she?” Cason staggered to his feet. Easing his way away from her, he wondered why he felt an over whelming need to protect her.

Brent Stephens is the Fire Chief and lead emergency medical technician. He loves his job as a firefighter.

Bunny Kater owns Kater’s Café, a restaurant where the firemen frequent for hot meals and hot coffee. She came to Virginia to get away from the memories of her deceased husband.

Due to work that needs to be done on his place, Brent ends up staying at Bunny’s place. Suddenly what began as a friend offering him help became more as desire takes the place of friendship. But Bunny has issues with Brent being a firefighter, afraid he is going to end up being like her previous husband. Can Brent get her to see past her painful history with firemen and see him for the man he is?

Red Hot was a good book for the most part. Ms. Gordon uses realistic emotions, heartfelt moments, and real-life hurdles in this tale. The problem I had with this tale was that while the emotions for the most part were very real, there were times when there was so much crying going on I wanted to shout, “enough already”. I think the way many of the lesser characters came together to help Bunny and Brent figure out what they wanted out of their relationship was very good. If you like stories that seem to target those who love a lot of emotions, tough decisions, painful pasts, and steamy sex then you will like this novel.

Blurb

It isn’t the flames or smoke that worry Fire Chief Brent Stephens. What worries him the most is the heat his libido keeps throwing off every time he gets near Bunny Kater. Bunny’s sworn off firemen, and intimacy—never mind that she’s worn out a vibrator or two along the way—that is, until she meets Brent. Turning forty, coupled with Brent’s presence, awakens her isolated emotions in ways she isn’t expecting. And he’s younger than she is.

Brent is unsure of his growing interest in Bunny. If his overly zealous male ego calms down, he might be able to understand why Bunny affects him like she does. It would help if he could find his lust control switch and turn it down a few degrees, too. Second chances happen once chance at a time, but Brent isn’t even sure they’re going to get a first one.

Lorien’s Review

This was a fantastic book to read. Being so intuitive with the characters, I found myself laughing and cheering for the perfect couple. Not only did the characters intrigue me, they were assertive to exploring love and romance without boundaries.

Red Hot introduced two amazing characters that deserved a second chance. Fire Chief Brent Stephens has always been close to his family until his past continued to haunt him. But from their first introduction, Bunny Kater held his attention like no other. Regardless of their age differences and pasts, the hot young chief managed to make the relationship work with an older woman. Even so, when Brent needed a place to stay while his house was being repaired to meet inspection code, Bunny and her daughter Kate accepted him. It was the perfect way to take their attraction to the next step.

Solara Gordon crafted a playful and exciting erotic contemporary romance that was a page-turner. There were so many great aspects detailed in the book. First, the humorous dialogue kept me satisfied throughout the book. Second, the creativity and storytelling process dented a lasting impression. And last, the relationship between the characters emphasized an honest sexual intensity for each other upfront, and there was no stopping them. This made the plot so much more enjoyable to read. From the first page, there were incredible sparks between the characters and it followed through to the end.

RED HOT-Release Date: June 17th,2010 from Siren-Bookstrand

Story Excerpt:

“Go for it!” rang out. Someone tipped her chair forward. She rose to keep from falling. Steve took her arm, steadying her, and entwined it with his. He stepped forward, propelling her with him. He assumed the opening tango dance position. Bunny faced him, unsure what to do. Brent strolled toward them.

The upper body of her dreams withered and died as reality replaced it. Fantasy couldn’t live up to what she stared at. The man’s pecs and abs were tight and firm in all the right places. A light dusting of brown hair decorated his arms and chest. She followed its trail downward toward… Oh Lord. At the rate she was going, she would have Brent stripped. Well, at least mentally, he would be. She tugged the neck of her shirt and raised her gaze. Damn! His semi-grin and cheeky wink said “Caught ya!” He adjusted his sash, pulling the tip of it out of his waistband. The movement caught her off guard. A peek below said more of the hair trail waited exploration. She gulped and found her throat dryer than her mouth. Did he have to tighten the sash as he moved, emphasizing his broad, well-built torso even more?

He tapped Steve’s shoulder and pointed to her. Steve bowed to her and placed her hand in Brent’s. Nat King Cole’s duet version of “Unforgettable” with his daughter, Natalie, filled the air.

Brent spun Bunny close and began slow dancing around the bay. As the music faded, he hugged her. Firm flesh rippled under her hands and fingers. Warmth shot up her arms and pooled deep within her ribcage. It felt right, and yet it didn’t. Brent’s low “Thank you” whispered against her ear.

His hands rubbed from her tense shoulders to her lower back, stopping short of her waist. Her nipples tightened and budded, tenting her already tight shirt. He stepped sideways, taking her with him and turning them so his firm ass faced the crowd. She halted her fluttering hands as beads of perspiration formed beneath them. If she lowered them any farther, she’d be cupping him in a rather intimate way. Still, reality was proving much better than fantasy. Her hands fell to his waist just short of the top of his shorts. He wiggled and tensed his buttocks, causing her hands to slip under the edge of his waistband.

Red Hot-My June Release from Siren Publishing

After a lot of hard work and waiting, my dream becomes real. When I began writing Red Hot, I knew the journey wouldn’t be easy. I’ve learned so much and grown as a writer. There is still much to learn and new experiences to go with them.
My poetry taught me to write in a concise control manner. Telling a story and taking the reader along with you is a visual undertaking that requires more detail and description. The complex layering and interactions along with watching my characters come to life brings so much joy as I write down their journey. Who said a vivid imagination is a curse?
I’ve posted the cover for Red Hot. Let me know what you think of it. I’ll post how to attend my virtual release day party as soon as I know the date. May all your dreams be Red Hot!
